Raku Pottery by Bill Moore

About Us

Set in the glorious North Somerset countryside, within easy reach of Bristol, Clayability offers a range of pottery courses and one day workshops for beginners and experienced potters alike.

All courses and workshops take place in a well equipped studio, led by one of our experienced professional potters - Bill Moore and Ian Beckton.

About the tutors

Bill Moore
Bill has been a professional full time potter for over 25 years, exhibiting and selling both nationally and internationally. He has a degree in ceramics from UWE Bristol and more than 12 years experience of teaching pottery to others. Having trained as a production thrower Bill loves teaching others to throw on the potter’s wheel. He also has a wealth of experience in handbuilding and decorating techniques.

Bill currently teaches Clayability classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays, as well as offering the one day throwing and two day raku courses.

Ian Beckton
As a professional potter with over two decades of experience Ian specialises in earthenware and raku, producing popular and distinctive domestic ware in his North Somerset studio as Pear Tree Arts. With a degree in ceramics from UWE Bristol and many years experience in design, throwing and handbuilding Ian has much to share with students of all abilities.

Ian currently teaches Clayability classes on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

About our courses
10 week courses at Clayability are run in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Students are encouraged to follow their own interests, with one-to-one support and guidance from our professional tutors as needed. Complete beginners are welcome and will be taken through all the essential techniques, whilst more experienced potters can further develop their skills.

The workshop is fully equipped to support all kinds of making and decorating - throwing on the wheel, handbuilding, the use of moulds, stamps, slips, glazes, oxides and more.

We find that students take a lot of inspiration from each other something that we now encourage via Instagram ( #clayability ) where you can see many pieces produced on Clayability courses as well as some of the things that have inspired them.
